MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rear spring
Does anyone have the thicknesses of the leaves of the 6 leaf CHA493 rear spring for the 1500? All the same or are there one or two different? |

Paul, I’ve just measured mine and they’re all 4.4mm. At the centre all 6 together measure 26.5mm so dividing back gives 4.417mm. Bob |

Aren't they interleaved with thin nylon or similar blades? I know one set I had were, but perhaps they weren't OEM. |

Thanks for taking the trouble Bob, looks like as I suspected the one in our workshop at present has been fiddled with, much appreciated When I checked my memory against the workshop manual only the 5 leaf specs were listed. |

Any help?

Can you read that?! Sorry. It says: 1098 and 1275, 5 leaves @ 0.17" 1500, 6 leaves @ 0.167" - 0.177" Does the fact that they state a range on the 1500 mean that they are not all uniform thickness? |

ETA: Too late again, I was off checking my memory at 86lbs, sorry don't know about thickness. "Type (1500) Number of leaves - 6 Width of leaves - 1.5 in (38.1 mm) Thickness of leaves - 0.167 - 0.177 in (4.24 - 4.5 mm) Free Camber - 5.58 in (141.7 mm)" (Spring was rated at 86lb/sq in.) ![]() |
