MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Removing duplex crankshaft timing sprocket
| My word this engine is fighting me. Any tips for removing a stubborn small sprocket would be very welcome. My puller arms won't grip the back of the sprocket. |

| You could try a pair of tyre levers or pry-bars. |

| Is it that the puller arms keep springing out, losing their grip on the rear of the sprocket? I have worked around that by putting a large Jubilee clip around to prevent them popping off. Plus once you have got some tension on, then a sharp tap on the bolt head with a hammer can spring the sprocket free. Having more than 2 hands can help! |

| I agree with Dave. Levers/stiff screwdriver usually works. Or you could try open ended spanners, as I used to remove diff bearings, because I didn't have the right puller. Willy suggested it might work. And it worked superbly, as normally these bearings are damaged by repeated removal. The right sized open endeds may work on your sprocket.

| What seemed difficult, was rendered very, very, very, easy. Just a thought.

| Isn't it on a taper? |
| GuyW |
| Not tapered. Woodruff keyed. https://youtu.be/WtSllYSrPXk?si=ISwwLJKN9T6O6HjR

| Thanks to all and Dave in particular. Car tyre levers got it started very nicely and i finished it with a 3 leg puller. |
