MG Midget and Sprite Technical - running in oil
good evening all i am rebuilding a spare engine for my 1500 crank grind and rebore, Uprated cam/followers, uprated head, new oil pump Would you experts recommend 200 miles on running in oil or straight in with ordinary 20/50 for a few k miles thanks in advance ps if anyone wants a 1500 engine in good running order currently running in car. , i will have one fairly soon rgds tony |

I've used running in oil in the last two engines I've rebuilt and they are the only two that haven't burnt oil once run in. I'd always use it from now on. Not sure on the mileage, I might be tempted to leave it in for 500 miles but I'm sure you'll get other suggestions! |

thanks your reply ...the 200 mile run in period for the oil came from an oil manufacturers recommendation. It seems a little short however the oil may break down if left in longer rgds tony |

Tony, I was planning on having a spare engine overhauled locally this winter as I am working flat out on my house for a while yet. If you know how much you want for a good running, standard, non oil leaky 1500 engine let me know to davesquire at linkuptechnology dot com. btw where is 'hassocks'? Cheers, Dave |
