MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Seat Removal

Hi All,
Is there an idiot proof way of getting the seats out from my 1972 mk III?
I need to recarpet the old girl & cannot for the life of me see how its done?
Cheers

Hi, Colin. It's pretty easy, really. Slide the seat forward all the way to expose the rear of the tracks, and you'll see the bolt in each one. They thread into captive nuts, so just undo them with a socket. For the forward ends, you'll need to reach under the car to get to the nuts that thread onto the seat rail studs. The inboard one will be tricky to see, as it's located in a reinforcing member. But they're both pretty straightforward to undo, and you probably won't need to raise the car.

drop the roof to make it easier

one seat at a time:-

remove the two front nuts from under the car, look for any washers to remain stuck or drop down

move the seat fully forward remove the two bolts any any washers

the seat should now just lift out with runners, be creful as the runner with the catch will stick out and could scratch interior or paint and the other runner at some point will fall off as it's free to do so

if any nuts or bolts are too tight/rusted/gummed up to undo:-
spray a nuts and bolts from inside and under car with a penetrating/releasing fluid such as Plus Gas (WD 40 is not as good) then leave as long as possible, go and have a mug of tea, when you come back slightly tighten before loosening

a video for B seats but it gives the general idea - http://www.youtube.com/user/Universitymotorsltd#p/u/3/0BCzqyfDLC4

As said you don’t need to raise the car but you might need a torch or long arms to locate the inner nuts

handy to have as many of these as possible:
7/16” socket or spanner (11 mm if you really must)
7/16” deep socket
ratchet
6” bar

Copperease nuts and bolts underneath when you put back to make it easier next time
