MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Sidescreen clamping bracket

The clamping brackets on the right do fit well, the left ones do not. So I can not close the gaps with thew hard top. Where can a source good ones?

They don't look hard to make Flip, if you can get hold of some suitable stainless flat.
But assuming the issue is that the brackets aren't fully engaging with the clamp screws it would be simple to saw off that part of the bracket, move it a tiddy bit left and weld it back on.
I know - that's not what you asked really but it would be one solution maybe.
Greybeard

Are the brackets at fault, or is there something else out of alignment?
Dave O'Neill 2

It may be the hard top. I found mine fit the top better one side than the other. Not a problem with the soft top of course.
Bob Beaumont

Windscreen position / misalignment can cause side screen brackets to be out of position relative to the screws on the doors.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Yes the had top is not symmetrical! The windscreen position seems to be ok. (how can I change that Les?, the bolds are fixed to the body)
I think I am going to make my own custom made brackets. One pair for the hardtop one pair for the soft top (the fitting on the right side is not good).

Slightly connected, but should the clamps have some protective backing where they fit against the cockpit door trim? I am thinking of glueing some thin rubber like bike inner tube to the underside of the brackets on mine.

Good idea, or not?

Guy

Simple question why is the rubber required?
Bob Beaumont

To stop the bracket marking my freshly polished door capping. But maybe it just introduces unwanted movement between the parts? It seemed to me like something others may have tried.
GuyW

Fair enough. I do find the sidescreens need to be fairly tight to stop them moving about (50p in the slot!) and the rubber may impact on this. I didn't bother to repolish mine as I quite liked the 'patina'

Bob Beaumont

I use felt instead of rubber,

Thanks Flip. In fact I had gone ahead and made some pads, but used a piece of leather.
GuyW

Tank you guys. The above thread remembered me that I have very thick felt; problem solved!

Just noticed, I put the dome nuts on the outside! I thought it looke neater that way but maybe I just got that wrong.
