MG Midget and Sprite Technical - spark plugs
'evening chaps....so, tonight's conundrum...1275 12CC series engine...recommended plugs are Champion N9Y gapped at 25 thou [6.5mm]...I have some NGK BP6E fitted which I gapped the same so it came as a bit of a revelation to find that on the NGK website the recommended gap for these is 8 mm [a gnat's whisker over 30 thou]. Any wise heads out there with a comment? Cheers, Dave |

ooop..that should be 0.65 mm ! |

I suspect misprints: 6.5mm is 1/4" or thereabouts - that's some spark plug gap, and as for 8mm! My BL workshop manual gives 24 thou to 26 thou as 0.610mm to 0.660mm for Champion N9Y. I think you'll find the NGK website recommends 0.8mm for the gap, and that's 31 thou. Colin |

With points I’d stick with .025. Maybe .030 for a true electronic ignition set up. |

David - you posted while I was typing! Apologies if you'd already spotted it! C |

no worries, Colin! yep....special spark plugs 2 feet long! Damn metric measurements!.... |

..more research on the NGK site gives 0.6 mm gap for BP6ES [which they also claim are replacements for Champion N9YCs...]. Dave |

You could also use BP6E and with my 123 fully electronic dissy it was found best by Peter to gap at 28 thou (0.7112mm). 25 thou = 0.635mm by Google. |
