Hi My speedo is overeading. Any recommendations for a suitable restorer/overhauler? Thanks Bob |

Thanks David, I recall there was someone who took ages to respond I assume this is not him? |

ISTR Dominic in Switzerland had a problem with him but many others have had good service, he's done two speedos for me with a 2 to 3 week turnaround. I've just found an email addy too: woodykeys67@msn.com |

Richard took a while to get mine done too but in the end it was a spot on job, very accurate, and pleasant guy to deal with. I discovered that you need to ensure there's no preload on the drive cable before fully installing it into the speedo head but I also worked out a very easy method to prevent this, remind me nearer the time and I'll look it up for you or just explain from memory (no!). |

I rarely give a supplier a highly negative rating, but here I cannot do anything else. It took Richard Jenkins four months to do mine, and even then I had to return it for a second try because it was way off. In those four months I was given endless excuses (most of which were plain lies) and many (missed) delivery dates, and long periods of not answering the phone at all. I suggest there are many others that can do a better job, I now only use Speedograph Richfield. Talk to Tim. At least he is normally reachable unlike Richard Jenkins.

I used Speedograph Richfield for both speedo and tacho. Good service. The tacho read too fast and he spotted it was the cable preload, and with a new cable it's fine. Les |

I also had very good experience with Richard Jenkins. Ray |

Send it to: Mo-Ma Manufacturing, LLC 1321 2nd St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 USA momamanufacturing.com +1 505 766-6661 Joey will calibrate it. Mo-Ma does instrument restoration for clients around the world. They have all of the gears and bits. I have had them repair and calibrate my Smiths MG speedometers as well as VDO Volvo KM speedos from S. America (both mechanical and electronic.) |

I'd not use Speedograph Richfield again. It took them 4 attempts to overhaul my Elan speedo and it still didn't read accurately after all that. |

Thanks for all the replies. A bit of a mixed bag of recommendations. Having spoken to Tim at Speedograph and Richard at C & V I sent it to Tim. He has advised a 3/4 week turnaround but given I can't use the frogeye because of lockdown its not a problem. Will report back on the results |

Assuming that tire size is correct and that speedo gearing is compatible, I have had luck removing the needle, taking the car up to speed with a helper and a GPS and reinstalling it while moving. Once stopped, a firm tap with a wooden mallet will keep it firmly in place. If there is a gearing issue, of course your reading would not be linear after resetting the needle. |
