MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Steering rack grease, which?
What grease do I need please to use on the steering rack? I've got the Triumph type steering rack and one of the nasty piss-poor-rubber gaiters has split (it lasted a lot longer than I expected). Through the split I can see that the steering rack seems to have some redy-pinky grease from it so think I should be prepared to add grease when I put the new (but hopefully better fitting) piss-poor rubber gaiters on. Before anyone asks or says anything the good book has greasing the rack as a dealership job. :) |

any general-purpose grease such as Castrol LM |

David, thank you, I thought that was the case but the colour of the present grease threw me. |

Hi Prop, this is the grease I put in my grease hand gun and small grease syringe, its just Comma stuff. I gave away my full size cartridge grease gun with the Slick-50 grease cartridge when I sold my previous Spridget many moons back. |

Over here John Deere sells a CORN HEAD grease that is thinner than the standard grease. I don't have a model number but the spec is a # 1 grease while the standard is #2. It doesn't pour but does come in a grease gun tube. I also use it in my wiper motors. Some one over there should make a grease to that spec. |

Thank you. I done the job yesterday so missed your post but although I added a small amount of grease I don't really think I really needed to and by the time I'd cleaned off all the fresh and existing grease that had traveled because of the very, very tight fit of the previous gaiters I was probably back to square one. The existing grease was pink, I used my Comma grease which has a 2 in its number. |

Correction to my previous post. The John Deere grease part number is AN 102562. The NLGI grade is No. 0 not 1 as previously stated. |
