MG Midget and Sprite Technical - SU carb body / float chamber
Hi , I had an issue at the weekend where my front float chamber decided to try and part company with the carb body by the bolt rattling loose. Luckily I had some cable ties to get me home from the MASC Gaydon event. I have taken it apart and I need to replace the plastic grommet that gives the angle as it’s all chewed up . My question is in the photo there is like a metal pin pushed in to the carb body, is this correct. I seem to remember for other carbs it was like a cast aluminium lug as part of the carb body. Has someone bodged it ? ![]() |

Mike Does this help? Can't see a pin. ![]() |

That’s really helpful thanks Bill , it looks like someone has replaced the lug with a pin , maybe it broke off at some point . I’m hoping it will still work . I have uploaded a clearer picture hopefully.

I reckon that would work Mike as long as the angle is correct. |

In both versions, it appears to be about mid point to the crescent that the rubber insert fits to. Not quite clear on your photo Mike, but it looks like a different casting number so maybe a revision of the body rather than an alteration? |

Thanks Bill and Guy , I have ordered a new rubber insert so will try that and see if it gives the correct angle with the pin. I think it’s the rubber insert that sets the angle for various applications, vertical, 20 or 30 deg from what I have read so don’t know why anyone would want to remove the cast lug and put a pin in its place unless it sheared off at some point. |

Mike, I dont know, but wondered if the pin was a factory version, and related to the different casting number. |
