MG Midget and Sprite Technical - SU electric pump adjustment

Hello.

Slightly non-Spridget, but...

I have an electric SU pump on an old 1933 Austin Seven after I failed to find a replacement actuating arm for it but the output pressure of the SU is too high at 3.5 psi.
Does anyone know if the pressure can be adjusted on these pumps?

Thanks

Rob

The pump is not "adjustable" but they do a lower pressure pump - talk to Burlen - they may be able to advise and possibly supply a weaker main spring.

Or you could fit a pressure regulator/filter.

My thought as well... A weaker spring. That way you wouldn't have a non-original regulator on display. Nice looking chassis, by the way! Sevens are delightful little things, and seldom seen over here... Outside of museums, anyway.

Best of luck,

Contact Burlen Fuel Systems and ask for volute spring AUA 1449 for the low pressure pumps (1.5 psi). The price that I have is £1.69 (I am not sure how old that price is). Cheers - Dave

Thanks, guys.

I changed the spring and diaphragm for an LP one from a Morris 8 pump. I now get just over 1 psi at the carb. Job done!
After all that I found the head gasket (new copper one) leaking and after removing the head I found a piece of crud had slipped onto the copper as the head had been lowered down. Bugger! I cleaned it up, lapped the head on an old Morris Traveller side window and reassembled it all with some Loctite 5920. Good stuff.
All I need now are some decent rear springs from a late 1935+ car and I'll be ready to start panelling the body.

Looking good Rob. What style body are you putting on? Ulsterish?
