MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Tacho testing

Can I check the functionality of non working tacho from a pos earth car using a neg earth car?

The tacho has 3 connections which are:

1 white / green male bullet on tacho [connects to the neg terminal on the coil?]
2 white female bullet on tacho [connects to the ignition switch?]
3 green male spade terminal on tacho [connects to the fuse box?]

To use the car whilst the tacho is disconnected, am I correct in just linking the WG and W?

White - from ign switch live.
White/Green - to coil power (positive on neg earth cars!)
Green spade - fusebox green circuit.
Ring terminal on back - earth.

You can test a +E tach on a -E car, but you have to support the tach in your hands and put the earth to the spade terminal and the live to the body of the unit (of course) Don't let the tach touch anything, or at best you'll blow fuses...

To drive the car without a tach, simply connect the two bullet terminals behind the dash, W/WG. Maybe for extra safety, tape up the tip of the green spade.

Id follow on MR Hulls advice and add some jumper wires to the tach and stand ""way"" outside the car to test it

I personally would not want to be hand holding this pipe bomb wanna be if you make any contact between the car and the tach...so take every percaustion when doing this....

And for the love of god, if you do this, film it just in case it goes south,,,,, I and about a million other youtubers want to see this darwin awards ceremony event
