MG Midget and Sprite Technical - The bodge brigade has been at my diff too!
You know when you get that feeling of impending doom, when you realise you are not the first person to tackle a certain job... Pulled diff this morning to replace sun and planet gear thrusts in order to try to fix a nasty sounding clunk. I was a bit confused when the cross pin was held in with a grub screw. Turns out whoever was here last completely fubared the cross pin retaining peg, they then left the broken remnants inside and tapped the diff casing to accept a grub screw to hold the broken bits in place. To make things worse, they damaged the planet gear bearing surface in the process. I am a bit stuck, I am going to have to gently dremel this flat and just stick with the grub screw solution. Oh my days! Malc. Cross pin with remaining peg. ![]() |

In for a penny in for a pound! What started as a quick job of replacing the thrusts has turned into a full strip and rebuild. |
