Spot all the cars of the 60s.

It's ALL good. But --- It gets VERY interesting at 3min 10secs. Would you get on the back?

Lawrence Slater

How DO you find them?!!
David Smith

Now this is clever. And scary......

There are other really interesting "Look at Life" films there as well. Buses, Motorcycles, cars, all sorts. Was it really so long ago?
Greybeard

Seems like yesterday.

Remember that? All our yesterdays?

Interesting to see the British made scooter pulling up outside the shops in Meriden, just down the road from the Triumph motorcycle factory!

Dave O'Neill 2

Triumph and BSA both made scooters too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_Tigress/BSA_Sunbeam

Ther were others. Douglas made a version of the Vespa under licence, with a Villiers engine.

The villiers engine was also unsed in a few other Brit scooters; ---

Phoenix scooters were designed and manufactured by Ex-TT motorcycle rider Ernie Barrett from 1956 to 1964. The first scooter made was a metal bodied machine with a Villiers 150cc engine and a 3 speed gearbox. The company policy was to build one machine using a range of Villiers engines – eventually from 98cc to the largest at 325cc. 1957 Phoenix 150 cc scooter. As time progressed the scooters were gradually changed from all steel bodies to bodies made completely of glass-fibre. The scooters did well in the Isle of Man scooter rallies with Ernie Barrett taking his own works team to such events.

And don't forget the Triumph Tina. How could you? ;)

There was an exhibition of British scooters at the Coventry Transport Museum some time back, I think there were thirty-five different makes marketed. They got into the game too late in the day though.

You still can't beat a Lambretta.
Graham

That's true. I had one. All the Brit offerings were naff by comparison. I'd have had a Vespa too though. It's just that I got my Lambretta for free. I knocked on some blokes door and ansked if it was for sale, as I could see it wasn't being used. He said if you can take it now, you can have it. So I took it there and then and pushed it home for 2 miles. Result, I owned a TV175.

When gas prices get high here you see alot more legal scooters on the road, the draw back they cant be more then 49 cc

Sadly... we just had a guy killed on his about 2 weeks ago, traveling down a back country farm road the kind that flows up and down and lots of turns (a great MG midget road) and got hit from behind.
He was probably travleing maxed out speed of 35 mph, the driver behind him doing 70 ... topped the hill and BAMB, there he was...lights out.

Fun thread, but why is it in Technical?

<<And don't forget the Triumph Tina.>>

I wish I could. It was an unmitigated sh*theap. As was the BSA Ariel3.

Let's move on please.
Greybeard

Because it was posted in technical. But still it's interesting. Scooters have made a big comeback. I wouldn't mind getting one myself. Modern scooters go like the clappers. And they seem to be the choice of armed shop raiders.
Lawrence Slater

Great clip Lawrence, was impressed with the "bumpers" of the Blond tottie at 7.20... ;)

Btw, there is a T-type midget at 7.22 behind the students so there is official Midget-content!!
Arie

Well spotted Arie. Hawkeye?
