MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Twin 1 1/4 hs2 throttle linkage springs
Come on you lot I know I'm missing something but can't for the life of me think what. A lot of carb linkages I've seen end up with the the holes for the return springs at the back towards the heat shield. On my frog I have taken them off for new jets and to clean crappy new fuel from the float chambers. My problem being the hole for the return spring is on top of the linkage (see picture) The carbs have been working on the car for 6-7 years so the springs must go somewhere. Thanks in advance Dave ![]() |

That is very wierd looking Im assuming thats the rear carb and the linkage that your thumb is resting is for the butter fly ? What did these carbs come off of orginally? Im fairly sure Frogs had SU HS1 carbs 1 1/8th inch I think hayens refers to them as just H carbs But this carb has the y pipe vent....im not sure ive seen this hs 2 carb variation before It could well be what goes to a frog asi dint see many frogs around Do you know for a fact its an HS2 1.25" carbs Prop |

Prop Should have said my frog is running a 1275 I have done a bit more digging and those brackets on the linkage appear to be from a 1500 where the return springs go upwards. what is throwing me is I've used it for several years with the springs connected to something. I have an old set of carbs so will strip the linkages from them. Dave |

Thanks for the clarity on the 1275 Now your saying you have a 1500 heat shield for the uk market ? Which HS 4 carbs 1 1/2 inch Id be happy to post a photo of my standard hs 2 carb set up... the filter are removed, so all the springs and linkage are intact and opperational and can be fully viewed if that helps Unfortantly. Here is the usa the 1500 ,came with the single zennith carb ...so I cant comment further on the 1500 as it applies to your application Prop |

I have those later carbs on my 1275 frog. I wonder looking at the photo of the brackets are just on the wrong side, the hole where your thumb is should be at the bottom when the butterfly is closed. The spring then attaches to that and to a hole in the heat shield. There are 3 springs one for each carb and one for the throttle cable. The throttle cable one is a different length to the other two. |
