Sometimes on a flat battery it decides it is a 6 volt battery and will no charge it to get 12V.

On other occasions it decides the battery is not chargeable,

On both these occasions use a normal charger and the battery will normally charge.

In those circumstances I have found you can fool it into doing what it ought to by jumping a good battery briefly in parallel.

I have had one for a year or so. On a very low battery, as Eddie says, it goes to 6V on the display to start with. However, if it is left like that it soon goes to 12V and charges successfully.
