MG Midget and Sprite Technical - When did king pin kits, become LH and RH?

When did king pin kits, become LH and RH?

Does anyone know what in a king pin kit makes it left handed or right handed?

All the new kits appear to be handed. Which bit is handed? I've never fitted any part to any particualar side. Is this a new thing?

Surely this is a mistake.

Or have I been fitting them to the wrong side all my life? I think not.

Cannot answer your question as I am pretty sure there are no "handed" parts in there!
But those you have linked to are expensive! Available for a lot less. e.g.MGOC are £39.95 a pair, v. £36+ each!

And how does anyone justify a price like this !!

Must be a mistake. Even QH kits used to have a LH/RH suffix. I'd never noticed before, but they keep cropping up lately.

I wonder how many VECO sets they expect to sell at those prices. You'd have to be crazy to pay that much.

Lawrence Slater

Guy,

I've seen the likes of that on many different sorts of items and the general thought was that the vendor didn't have stock so rather than remove the listing they set the price far higher than anyone was likely to bid. I guess if anyone did bid they'd run out and buy the item to supply it from somewhere that did have it.

Regarding handedness I can't think of anything about the kingpin sets that is handed.
David Billington

did you notice the ads in Lawrence's link show LH and RH - yet all have the same part number.
David Smith

Yup I saw that Dave. Even an old part number for QH kits, has a suffix RH and LH. But none of the original BMC/Unipart numbers do. I can't find the part number at the moment, but when I find it, I'll post it.

I wonder if the mistake originated with QH, and has been carried forward?
