MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Where to remove engine

OK, I have a wee problem with our UK domiciled Midget ... the cam lobes appear to be badly worn and the compression on no 2 is well down. :-(
Bad enough at any time, but it is in London in the care of son Matt who has no facilities (though at least he has a park in the basement of his apartment), and I am at home in NZ for the foreseable future.

Peter Burgess is happy to attend to the work but can't do the remove and refit.

Any suggestions on who/where to remove the engine are welcome!

Matt tells me he thinks there is room in his basment garage, so does anyone know where to a hire engine crane?
He's in Golder's Green.

Paul, Matt

I have an engine crane you are welcome to borrow anytime. I am about an hour north of Matt, happy to meet him halfway somewhere and pass over the crane, or at Christmas I could bring it down to him in GGreen and help him lift out the engine then take the crane back or leave it with him of the engine will go back in soon.

It is a long time since I have used a crane to remove an engine from a Midget, but I seem to recall I needed quite a bit of headroom. Is Matt sure the basement is high enough? (Reminds me of the old adage 'measure twice, cut once.')

you can buy a new crane on e bay for £110 delivered - then sell it on after at half the price and it will be cheaper than hiring - which you'll need to do twice

or buy a secondhand one on ebay and sell after for a small profit like i did usually a few on there.

Thanks all, usual very helpful BBS response :-)
Ian, I'll email.

Hi,
I have a crane and engine stand you can borrow if they are still needed. I am in Hertfordshire a little closer than Northants.
Happy to help remove the engine if I have time, too.

Thanks for the very generous offers of help. There's no panic on the job, and Matt is currently trying to sort out when he'll be free enough from work etc to tackle it. We'll be in touch.
Cheers
