MG Midget and Sprite Technical - which steering arms?

When buying my discbrake conversion kit they came with steering arms and I thought little of this but now before assembly I noticed that the disc steering arms seems slightly different from the frogs drumbrake ones. Should I swap for my earlier type arms or does it not matter? Also the cast numbers should be facing up and not down when assembled correctly right?

Use the arms that cam with the hubs irrc
Onno K

Use your original arms.

Use the arms that fit your track rod ends! (Probably the originals as Dave O'N suggests)

Alright true enough the ones that fitted the track rod end were the early ones.

Now the real problem starts one appear to have been cracked and welded, probably from when the car was wrecked.

So anyone got an extra set of early steering arms there willing to part with? or can I just make the hole larger in my newer arms?

There's a set up on ebay but seller claims shipping to be just to much for me to be able to accept for such a small part so I'll try my luck here

Hi Alex

They are forged arms - very tough and also the TRE hole is tapered, that doesn't mean you can't resize the holes, just that engineeringwise its problematical... Not sure how much spare metal there is to play with on the later steering arms. You are correct however to reject steering arms that have been rewelded - very dangerous in my view.

Sorry I don't have a spare set of arms

I might have some. I will have a look when I get a chance.
Dave O'Neill2

Alright thanks for the input James, i will try and track down a set of other arms then.

Dave that would be great, no rush though! But if you should find them please send me an email at konversiell(at)hotmail(dot)com

If Dave can't help, try MGBHive as they sell second hand bits and might have the ones you want,
Graham.

Thanks Graham, have sent them an email now.

Otherwise if I can't source a pair of steering arms how about fitting later type track rod ends to the earlier rack if they even would fit? Anyone?
Alexander Sorby Wigstrom

The later track rod ends don't fit the early rack. You would need to change the whole rack and mountings.
Dave O'Neill2

Alright, no sweat MGB hive seems to have a set available so that's good news.

All's well that ends well I guess
