MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Window winder mechanism - slide channel
I tried to reactivate Steve Clark's thread from 15 April 2004 on rebuilding a door but it would not work. If you read this Steve, thank you for your posting as it has removed some of the mystery for me. I read so many postings about how difficult it is to work on the window winder mechanism I was fearful of even looking! Last weekend my passenger side glass came adrift from its slide channel. I tried to replace it today and found the slide channel is a bit corroded and the rubber the glass sits in had moved or not been fitted properly. I want to remove it to either refurbish or replace. What I cannot work out is how the slide channel is removed from the lifting mechanism. I assume it is possible to do this without removing the lifting mechanism from the door but I cannot work out how it is connected. As always any advice and guidance will be most appreciated. |

You will need to unbolt the regulator in order to remove and refit the channel. |

I don't know if this will help, as it was written for the purpose of describing the sequence to assemble doors starting from a bare shell, but just in case it will be of some use to you, here is an article from the MG Experience Library for your reference: http://www.mgexperience.net/article/spridget-door-assembly.html The key point regarding your question about the window regulator is that there is a notch on the top of the sliding channel that will allow you to remove it from the window regulator itself. To be able to get things into the necessary orientation, you will have to unbolt the regulator from the door inner panel, and remove the rear glass guide (that, you can just drop down to the bottom of the door, to get it out of your way). Thank you Norm, That's very helpful as it describes how the glass actually fits onto the window regulator. Currently this area is a mixture of corrosion and Waxoyl!! |

Thank you all for the help. I have removed he parts in question and I will now refurbish / straighten them to try to get smooth operation. The problem was caused by incorrect fitting and some corrosion despite liberal amounts of waxoyl and grease almost everywhere!. |
