MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Windscreen to body seal...

Hi, has anyone fitted a new windscreen to body rubber seal? Do you need to separate the windscreen frame to slide the seal onto the bottom of the frame or can this be achieved without taking the frame apart? Any advice would be most welcome thanks.
J Shaw

I just completed the task and I had the same thought.
The way I did it was by turning the screen up
Side down and having it held there
The seal has a T type piece which fits into the screen
I put I side on the T into the channel and used some masking tape to hold it, ( the seal is therefor at a sight angle.)
By pushing the other side down it clearly doesn't fit into the channel but if you use a scrapper/'flat screw driver and gentle work your way along you can Push the other side down and into the channel.

If that makes sense!!

Thanks, was hoping it was possible as I have just got all the frame back together and did not fancy taking it apart again! I will give it a go.

Yep, Jon's right, an old paint scraper (old = rounded edges) and some patience are all you need. When fitting the windscreen back onto the car, put gaffer tape, sticky side up on the scuttle, that plus the scraper (also taped up) will help you push the seal forwards once you've fixed the screen down. To pull the screen down, I used Guy's method of a pair of small ratchet straps looped round the the top door hinges - makes it easy!
Worth making sure your quarterlights are in the right position too, we didn't and so had to shift the windscreen a few times to get it to the correct rake.
Appologies if you already knew all this!

Yey, I did something right?!!

WIsh I'd known about Jon's method as it took two of us to get the damn thing in - it was one of the worst jobs of the restoration. Still it must have helped Fairy Liquid profits as we used gallons of the stuff and when it rains there are still bubbles forming at the corners of the windscreen! At east it's clean - lol.

Thanks everyone for the help, that screen is one of the worst jobs! Agree putting quarterlights in is a good idea so I will give that a go next weekend.

Hope this helps - this is what Craig was referring to as my method of pulling the screen down onto the scuttle tight enough to get the screen pillar bolts to line up.

Good idea, I used the straps to pull the screen back together so will give that a go.

Thanks!
