MG Midget and Sprite Technical - winter store

What can I do to store my frogeye properly for the winter?

Flip
Flip Brühl

leave it with me - I'll only use it when it's not raining, promise ;-)
David Smith

Don't
Plenty of dry non salty days to run it.
Best for the car and best for your spirit!
Onno K

I even run it with snow and ice, use it ore lose it... but I need input for the healey magazine

Healy magazine?
Is that still alive?

I see your need for info as some of these people keep their car in a air controled cocoon even in summer!!! :)

Flip, can you help me with the brandname or even modelnr. of your tent you had on Overdinkel last year?
Both Jochem and I are looking to replace our cheapo tents and we were impressed by your pop-up tent with 1.80mtr hight
Arie de Best

Ok
Change oil (so the new oil can absorb the moisture during the winter)
Raise the car from the concrete (so no flat spots on the tires)
Change brake fluid (moisture)
What else?

Flip

PS Ari, a rubber cocon? Yes you can stil buy the tent at Decatlon (near the Amsterdam Arena) it was €99,- Two years ago hey wanted to get rid of it before the winter started....
The Dutch Healey owner club has a magazine with a lot of technical stuff. Long long ago I was a member of the MG car club in those days the members where gentlemen who talked about cars but never had to wash their hands. I came there for advice...

Make sure the anti-freeze is still viable and put the battery on trickle charge or use one of these automatic battery maintenance chargers.
JB Anderson

Flip,
this subject gets covered quite often so there are loads of articles, threads and posts on it all over the internet

I'm with David and Onno

I know of a big Healey in the very north of England that gets used on suitable days over winter and up there they have long hard winters, their spring and autumns days aren't always that good either
Nigel Atkins

Thanks Flip!

Fill up the fuelltank to prevent rust forming?
Grease up the joints(so its ready for spring)
Protect the chrome by wrubbing it with a cloth with acid free vaseline.

Basicly the things we do on my dads motorboat to make it ready for winter.
Think it would work the same on a classic car too.

Arie de Best

Wash and dry it properly as well - most people forget that - but, even the cleanest car can hold a bit of dirt all over winter.

Run fans in the garage and/or dehumidifiers and also mouse traps

Arie - I'll sell you a 5 person 1.80metre tent - only thing is - it's not pop up, but, equally, I think that it may take less time than your other one to put up!!! :) I dislike it because it is like a classic car that doesn't get used enough ;)
