MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wiper box installation

Hi,

I'm in the process of reinstalling the wiper boxes and tubes after the car was resprayed.

Can anyone advise which way the wiper box needs to be put in? At the moment the side which holds the tubes is facing the bulkhead, but this seems to be a very tight fit almost to the point that the tube from the wiper motor to the first box won't fit. Should they be fitted the other way around i.e. the "tube side" facing the passenger compartment?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andi

An additional question and much more basic, does the dash have to come out to fit the Right hand side wiper box or can I do it simply by removing the rev counter ? (sorry to hyjack your thread).

you can just about see the wheel box in this picture from my 1966 sprite. Passenger side. Hope this helps. Andy

Heres one of mine, not sure its any clearer though.

I did manage to replace the drivers side without taking out the dash. even with the gauge removed it was a fiddly mare of a job though.

Here's a shot that shows the wipers without anything to block the view (ignore the fusebox)...

i have just done this job on my heritage shell re-build and replaced the motor, worm drive everything in fact.

I found on refitting that the original siting of the motor made adjustment tricky (especially as i was doing everything to reduce the likley internal friction as my wipers were super slow) so, i moved the motor and therefore only had one nice gradual bend in the tube. Being able to adjust the rotation (on its axis i mean) enabled me to reduce the feeling that all was fighting itself !!

i guess the picture will make more sense, Just to add, i worked from the wheelboxes back, not site the motor then bend and adjust.

hope that helps
