MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Worn Rockers

Hello,

I set the tappets last night on my 1968 1275 Sprite, and the engine is a whole lot better, but I also noticed that the rockers (or the shaft) are worn as the rockers tilt sideways much more than I would expect.

I was told that they are ratio 1.5 rockers.

Looking around, minispares seems to have both availability of whole assemblies and reasonable price- but which of these pictured should I go for? The full roller rockers seem a good price compared to 'ordinary'...

Thanks,
Andy.

My personal opinion is the solid forged over the roller rocker

i have the purple roller tipped and its great i do like it... but the one arew ive never been happy about is the way the roller is attached to the rocker... its jst a roll pin with a little wheel and ALOT of gap and play between the roll pin and wheel..

i have to belive there is going to be some issues at some point down the road around that area... personally id like to see a lot tighter smother roller tip design

that is my only issue with the purple 1.5 ratio rockers and why i recommend the solid lifters without any experiance with them other then the fsctory stock 1.25 rockers thst are just like them... i tbink the solid would give longer life and provide a better more accurate setting.... just my opinion

remember.... on roller rockers to slide your feeler gauge in from the SIDE and NEVER from the front like on solid rockers

its shocking the price differsnce from the UK and the USA on rockers there alost $500 for the purple roller tipped rockers here... im glad i got mine over on your side then over here

I'd go for the purple ones, they've been excellent on my car and seem to be wearing well.

Andy,

I guess as you are looking at those kits you have some money to spend, but if not, I found with my 1500 I was able to pick up a couple of sets of used rockers for peanuts. Take the best of the rockers from all the sets plus a new shaft and jobs a gooden.

Thanks for the advise- I haven't got money to burn, but after seeing the improvement that just adjusting the tappets made, I'm willing to spend money on sensible improvements when I find worn/faulty items.
I was recommended www.med-engineering.co.uk for A-Series engine parts, and they look impressive, from their website.
Prop- these rocker sets seem (from the pictures) to be manufactured better than the purple ones, and look to have a substantial pin for the rollers.
I'll let you know the actual quality once they have been delivered.
Andy.

and the set...

I have the minispares set and they perform very will. the only real issue is whether or not they'll fit under your rocker cover.
