MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Zinga - 96% Zinc paint on coating
Has anybody on here used this stuff - http://www.zinga-uk.com ? It claims to be 96% zinc when applied - can be painted on with a brush and you can weld through it. Costs £15 / kg. Might even be better than Bondaprimer for underbody - any thoughts ? Malc |

Looks good Malc; the info on how to use is good too. I would have thought its the nearest to galvanising so far that I have seen if the steel is clean on application. I like brushing and rolling so its on my list for when the house is finished and I have time to tidy the midge. |

I've not used Zinga but I do have a tin of Teamac cold galvanising paint which is the same sort of thing. Word of advice get in the habit of rotating the tin occasionally to stop the zinc settling out as once it has it's hard work getting it back in suspension. |

Are you sure that you can weld through it Malc? I was always taught that welding Zinc galvanised steel is a no no due to the zinc oxide that it gives off. This can cause metal fever, which is short lasting but can be like a nasty case of flu. |

Welding galvinased is always bad due to the carceniginic toxic fumes The exception is ...unless you eat a large bag of lead based paint chips And burn lots of rattle can brake cleaner as fragrance 1st Granted you still will get very sick and probably die ... but you wont die from the welding of the galvanised metal Prop |

From their website.. KEY FEATURES Can protect longer than hot-dip galvanising (at the same dft) Can be applied on site Can be used to re-coat existing galvanising Existing layers of Zinga can be re-coated Excellent primer in Duplex system Good resistance to mechanical abrasion Excellent adhesion Extremely flexible Can be applied in extreme temperatures Weldable to X-ray quality Certified as non-flammable Unlimited shelf-life and unlimited pot-life I as understand it, its the lead in galvanising (it comes from the tanks they galv in)that causes all the problems - I have welded zintec sheet in the past and used a FFP3 filter which is supposed to filter at least 99% of airborne particles and a fan at my back. I had no problems afterwards - yet! |

Malc... Are you still breathing I get the impression from your posting... that it is weldable... but the same percations must be used as when welding galvanised... Primarily ... good ventilation Id say if its a stick or 2 here and there you should be fine... just pay attention to your vitals, if its a 3 hour un stopped welding afair... then I would be worried about you In the manufacture of hot dogs... according to the FDA there are aloud a certian amount of rat feciese and dead cockroaches to contaminate the Hot dog mixture before it has to be hazmat discarded So im sure there is a safe level of exposure to burning galvanize before you suffer permenat lung and brain destruction Prop |

Prop, I agree with your attitude - I only welded a smallish patch, clearly 8 hours of it would be bad. Thanks for the heads up on hot dogs !!!!! - lol We've had that many meat related health scares in the last few years I only eat veggie pizza or meat when I can see it in its original field !! Malc |

15 quid a Kg? Is that a litre or less? Less I imagine. So it better be bloody good for that money. ;). |

that'll be why I'm asking before buying !! |

Don't forget. because of the high zinc content it will be heavy. |
