MG MG Y Type - Accelerator Pedal PinchBolt Arrangement

Can anyone please let me know where to get one of these little pinch- crubb screw arrangements (Swivel Pin) that clamps the accelerator cable into the pedal?

Friends

I finally found a bycicle shop (the fifth, I checked) - with an owner who is as old as our Ys - that stocked pinch screws in the correct size.

OK, my first thought was bicycle shop....

How many did you buy Anton?

You should post a picture of it fitted!

I bought 3off. One has been fitted to the car and 2 are kept for spares because I do not know if this is old stock or if they are still readily available...

I'll have to get one more to take a picture of it, in its original shape. It comes with a hectagon screw (for better tightening) and also has a hectagon section on the round body itself (to counter-hold when fastening the accelaerator cable).

Unfortunately, I had to scim off the very usefull second hectagon in a lathe, because it got in the way when pushing the swivel-pin into position at the top end of the pedal.

My accelerator cable is held in the pedal bar by a hose clamp around the top of the bar (so the cable will not slip out).

Can you please advise the size of the hole and I will check with local bike shops for grub screws.

cheers

They are probably 6x14, like these:

If you can't find them locally I could order and send them at cost price.
The postage outside Europe will prove dearer than the part itself?

Gentlemen
Attached please find a picture the swivel pin, before I skimmed off the hectagon-end of the round pin.

Richard
It would just cost a couple of Pounds to get 4 of them to you in an envelope - if the guy still has that many in stock?! Problem being that he is closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Stuart
The hole size is 1/4" (approx. 6.3mm) and the Swiss swivel pin has an outside diameter of 6mm. The cross drilled hole that holds the cable is 2mm and comfortably takes the 1.6mm cable.

Willem
You seem to offer the perfect swivel pin for the job. It seems to be long enough so that the double-flat-end can be held by a spanner, to stop it from turning while the cable is pinched by the little bolt. Is it also 6mm with a 2mm cross-drilled hole?

Regards
Anton

Hi Anton,

"My" swivel pin measures 6 x 14 mm. I don't know the hole size, but that can always be enlarged with a drill.

So with 6 mm the thickness is spot-on, but the length of 14 mm may be a bit too much?
What is the length of the swivel pin you have?

This site offers 6 x 9 mm sized pin: http://www.scooteronderdelenshop.com/nieuw079794/klein-materiaal/nippels/overige-nippels/nippel-6x9-nr-24b-20x

Hello Willem

Hope you don't get upset if I suggest that all who need acellerator swivel pins should get in touch with you. Here is the reason why:
The top end of the accelerator shaft measures about 11.1mm (approx. 7/16"). The Swiss swivel pins are about that long whereas the hexagon end has to be skimmed down.

The bycicle part you offer is 3mm longer (about 9/16") thus the double flat spanner section comes just about right. It is not for nothing that the Neederlands are called bycicle country :o)

Greetings to all

Hi All,

Richard Knight has 'ordered' a couple of these swivel pins. Are there any other takers? Please mail your interest to my Gmail.com address: vdveery5888.

The pins itself cost EUR 0,80 a piece and the postage to me is EUR 4,95, regardless of the number of pins ordered...

Postage from Holland is
EUR 3,99 (50 to 100 gram) or
EUR 6,65 (100 to 250 gram).

To order 1 pin and to send it abroad would cost me EUR 9,74.
To order 10 pins and send them to 5 recipients abroad costs EUR 6,58 per package (or EUR 3,29 per pin).
A 10% premium should take care of the Paypal costs....

If you look at this you start to appreciate more the services off parts specialists as NTG, Moss etc?

I will be in Britain early June so I can mail them there to British recipients to save some postage costs.

Hi all,
old dead thread I know, but some-one may find this useful.
The type of bolt/nut used in flat pack furniture connections can be adapted for this job.
You would need to drill it for the cable and cut the nut and/or the bolt to length if need be. Can be left as long as needed,
I have used one such for the choke cable connector to the lever on the carbie.
Often these things can be found in local hardware stores. Image is of an e-bay site . The bolt/nuts have various names, so you may need to look around. (Cabinet bolts, furniture joiners, Chicago bolts, furniture bolts)
