MG MG Y Type - Adjusting brakes
The holes in my YB wheels don't align with the holes in the brake drums so I can't adjust the brakes with the wheels on. Is there a simple explanation? |

Hi, Simple take the wheels off and put them back with holes aligned, worked on several yb's where the wheels have been put back on in the wrong position Tyre fitters love doing this. John YB0362 |

Not so simple, the holes are at different centres, the wheels cover at least half of the holes in the drums making it impossible to get a screwdriver through to the adjusters. All wheels and drums are the same. |

Hi Ian? Either the hubs or the wheels are not standard YB fittings. I can see you having to remove the hubs and elongate the drum holes to suit your wheels.the wheels are not TD wheels are they?? i have seen on y's John YB0362 |

Hi Ian, have your wheels got a solid centre or a lot of holes all the way round near the rim? could you post any pictures of the wheels and hubs John YB0362 |

Ian, It appears that a former owner has fitted non-orig wheels. The center section of your wheel has been welded to the outer rim circumferentially. The center section of the wheels on my YB are joined to the outer rim at 90 degree angles with open slots between. I would guess I would agree with John, just elongate the adjustment holes and enjoy your chrome rims. Rocky |

8888888Hi Ian,
Yes looking at the wheels, not proper yb as Rodney has said yb's are joined in 4places to the rim with no welding showing. I'm afraid i would want to know how good the welding is right round the four wheels, i can just imagine what could happen if one fell apart, paint covers a multitude of bad sins!!is the spare the same? On a yb wheel from the centre of the adjusting hole to the center of the wheel where the turned over flange is opprox 4cms. i dont think a set of proper yb wheels would cost a fortune off this forum. John YB0362 Ps by the way what size tyres are on the car? |
JC Jebb |
The tyres are Camac 560 x 15 |

All 5 wheels are the same, and judging by pictures I have seen of other YB wheels they appear to be the same design, although the brake adjusting holes are in the wrong place. |

I suggest you do not elongate the holes in the drums, as they can be rotated to be in line with the slotted cams you want to adjust. It is the wheel holes that should be elongated, unless you find a correct set of wheels. |
