MG MG Y Type - An 'MGY Clock' for the Poolroom.

Just for fun: Found this large clock at the Op Shop - warped face, broken motor but nice wooden surround and glass intact. Cost : $1. Stripped workings; clamped and glued face to new plywood backing - result, nice flat face. Bought new motor on Fleabay for $12 delivered. Cleaned up spare Y speedo and installed fake milometer numerals; made speedo clock look vaguely correct; inserted spare grille badge in top half of face. Overall: a big working clock for the poolroom, with a nod to the beloved Y Type.
Absolutely no monetary value, but fun to do!
Yours,
John.

... and the tarted-up speedo.

I know the instrument is not fitted, but 100 mph in a Y type would be rather interesting - perhaps it is 100 kph. The large and small clocks appear to show different times.

Fantastic John - I love it!

R - yes, the big clock is working, so it was 6 to 10; the little clock has no mechanism behind it. Likewise the speedo has no dials behind it; the numerals are a nod to the year of the YA that I have under restoration and the mileage. As I said, just for fun.

What a unique idea, compliments to you, I love it. From the day that I took delivery of my YB I've kept a journal of the adventures that we have had with the car. It's in an A4 ring binder and it's still growing. People ask about the car whenever it's displayed, so part of our car's story is it's manufacture, told pictorially as well as written.

I used to keep the diary in the boot, just showing it occasionally whenever someone was interested. But now, thanks to a rather talented friend, it's displayed on it's own stand. You will see that the leg of the stand is separated, that's so I can take it apart for stowing in the boot, and for security. Assembled, it sits behind the front bumper and in front of the radiator. The journal is secured with a small link chain & lock.

Thank you - that is a magnificent bookstand! I can certainly see the interest in your diary, and I hope to view it myself one day - Joanne and I look forward to reconnecting with the UK after retirement later this year.
I also still have the operating water feature knocked up using an old (unsalvageable) Y Type block a few years ago. It sits in a quiet corner of the garden.
No doubt many Y keepers have cobbled together quirky Y Type mementos - it would be interesting to see more.
John.
