MG MG Y Type - badge on boot lid
I need to take the badge off the boot lid on my YB, but I cannot see how it is affixed through the small access hole. Anyone know how to get the badge off? Thanks. |

As I recall it a threaded stud and is held by a lockwasher and nut. I think the size is probably 2BA. I took it off by simply inserting a socket through the access hole. Don't loose the badge- it has a locating pin- and I think this type of badge is no longer available. Terry |

Larry: Terry is spot on. If you don't have a socket the right size and decide to use pointed nose pliers make sure you do not drop the nut. If you do you'll have to remove the boot (trunk) lid and shake the nut out!! I have been there and done that! Fortunately I was removing the boot lid anyway. The badge does have a locating pin on the underside which fits into a hole in the boot lid which I suppose was to stop it rotating and not being straight with the octagon. If you can only get a replacement without the pin just ensure it is tightened but not too tight so that the badge cuts into the paint. Good luck. Rob |

Thanks. I will give it a try tomorrow and see if I have any luck. |

Larry - best to use the deep socket approach if you can, and magnetise it before you use it as it will help pick up the nut and washer. Use a bit of masking tape to hold the badge in place while you unscrew it to assist you unscrewing it and to prevent its free rotation from scratching the boot lid. Paul |

Finally got it off. Not a 2BA, but a 3/16 SAE socket fit. Thanks for all the input. Larry |
