MG MG Y Type - Boot Lid Catches

I have found a local manufacturer who can produce new boot lid catches for Y's to the original pattern in polished stainless steel. This is the part attached to the body, not the latch in the bootlid.

The downside is they will be priced at $60AUD each. The manufacturer requires a minimum first order of 20 catches, and 50% payment prior to manufacture.

If I get 10 replies with orders/expressions of interest in the nesxt 2 weeks I will go ahead with the first batch.

So if you are interested in a catch at the price above (plus postage from Australia), please let me know via this forum or by email ASAP.

The manufacturer also produces Y-Type Boot hinges in Stainless Steel.

Seasons Greetings

As these are a) rarer that rocking horse droppings, b) prone to wear and breaking, c) being lost on restorations, d) made out of a cheap metal on the original and e)prone to mis-alignment, you can put me down for two right out of the gate. If yours breaks when you are away from home, a replacement takes no room at all.

These are something every car ought to have.

Thank you Tony.

Tony can be emailed at australia@mgytypes.org too.

The manufacturer has now reduced the minimum order to 10 catches - we have three confirmed orders at the moment.

The cutoff for orders will be next Friday.

Happy New Year Y-Typers

OK Y-typers, we only have four expressions of interest and the manufacturer is ready to go.

We need 10 to make a minimum batch - last chance before we cancel production.

Cheers

Even though at this time I dont need one, I have signed up for one. If yours snaps and we have not a source of spares, you will regret the passing of this opportunity. Any one with a Y should have a spare one of these - they take up no room at all ... but can you imagine your car with a broken latch?

Tony,

Have you considered either the Octagon Car Club, or MGCC Y Register for support. Having just read report on MGCC Y Register Site I quote passage regards the reference to their stock;-
"We are always looking for new items that can enhance ownership or solve problems. If you have a suggestion for a product that will do this, please contact Mike."

Tony, May be worth contact.
I'd happily buy one too direct from you if it clinches deal and helps you out, I've no need at present but who can predict future, let me know if you get near 10 and I'll settle up.

Thanks Everyone,
We are now close enough to a minimum order to proceed to manufacture.

I will contact those who have expressed interest first when the catches are done, then the last few will go, first come, first served.

Cheers

Tony, Received my boot lid catches today, thanks for all the effort you have put in for the catches to be manufactured. It's good to know there are people out there who can help keep our fabulous motor cars rolling along. Now let me see what else do I need?

Hi Dave,
I hope you find the superb quality and finish also to your liking.

I am always willing to help any y-Typers where I can.

I have a couple of left over catches from the first batch if anyone is interested AUD$60 + P&P worldwide.

Tony

Many thanks for my boot lid catch that arrived the other day. These are made from a beautifully finished stainless steel and are the perfect spare part to have. Thank you so much for having remade these.

If you dont have one and would like to obtain one, contact Tony ... now before yours breaks (as they do and will at the most inconvenient time!!). The picture does not do these justice.

Tony, I could do with couple of these catches if you still have some in stock? If not I would consider purchase of 3 couple back for spares and to fit replace faulty one.

Cheers

Tony,
Thanks for your help in this problem. My parcel arrived today from Australia. Excellent quality. Now no more time of my car sitting in garage with broken catch, time for spin.

Only two left at suppliers now.

As I mentioned at the very beginning of this thread - these are a small item that every one should have in their glove box/tool box. The original catches are up to 67 years old and could fail you. Any one interested in obtaining one of these unique replacements should contact Tony Slattery direct for availability. As Richard says only 2 remain from the original batch and to remake these the vendor will require a minimum 15 piece order. Now is the time.
