MG MG Y Type - Boot lid striker plate
Mine has just broken...did someone make some of these recently (Tony Slattery?)...otherwise will one from another car do - must have been fitted to cars such as early Mini or other 50s cars?? |

Unique to the MG Y Dave. It was Tony Slattery that had these made a while back. You can mail him via the Contact Us page at www.mgytypes.org to see if he still has any left from the small batch that was made. As a general note, these have a nasty habit of eventually snapping so having a spare in the glove box is always a good idea if Tony is willing to make some more. If there is an extended demand requirement for these please either email Tony or express your interest here. Thank you. Paul |

The manufacturer requires a minimum order of at least ten striker plates in polished Stainless Steel. I have none left from the first order, so step up folks and let me know you want one - all I ask is your name at the moment, a deposit will be sought when we get ten names. Anyone who got one from the first batch might like to comment here on the quality & price ?. Cheers Tony |

For those who are interested in a new striker plate, the first batch were $60AUD each. Postage within Australia was about $10AUD, and to the UK $25AUD & USA $27AUD. These are supplied at cost price, I wish they were cheaper, but such is the cost of low volume manufacturing. I have two names already for the next batch of ten, so if you want one, speak up. Yours in Y-Types, Tony |

Tony's replacement boot latches are fabulously made and great value. As I said before, Every Y ought to carry a spare latch for the boot/trunk lid as when it breaks you do not want to be left holding the lid shut with a bungee cord! Paul |

Pending the above I am going to ask around in the UK to see what it would cost to make one up here. They are relatively simple and cutting/filing/grinding one from a piece of steel should not be too difficult??? Where they not fitted to any other cars? |

The pattern was unique to MG Y I believe David though you may be able to cobble something from a BMC/BL Mini with adaptions to the mounting possibly. Frankly for the quality, $60AUD plus post isnt that bad really and Tony's quality is fabulous. |

You are correct Paul about the quality but its a lot of money for such a small item.....also I think the quality of the striker plate might well show up the rest of my car! Seriously I need one in the short term so if I do mange to come up with something will let you know. If all else fails I will have to bite the bullet. |

Dave, I'll send you my spare..... Rob |
