MG MG Y Type - Brake booster example?

Has anyone got an example of a vacuum brake booster fitted to a YA/YT?
I'm looking for some installed pics or drawings of a successful brake booster mounting/arrangement. I've heard it's been done inside the RH front guard, behind the wheel, there being insufficient roof in the engine bay. I'm interested in any info about this and how it was done. Hoping someone has already done it.
Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert
I have Y4616 which was purchased with a vacuum brake booster fitted under the RHS from guard.
You are welcome to come and view the set up , but I have no plans .
There is also a metal (aluminium) Shiel/guard to prevent road detritus affecting the booster, slightly indented to allow full wheel travel.
It would be good to catch up as well, I remember contacting you some years ago re your tourer and I am now working on my own tourer.

Hi Clive,
Great, thanks, I'd love to pay a visit and take some pictures. That sounds exactly the installation I anticipated.
Whereabouts in VIC are you? My YT is due for a good run.
FYI, I'm running 195/65R16 radials on 5" rims, so measuring clearance in the mudguard is a good precaution. I'll bring my rulers and some string.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Robert
It will be good to meet up. I remember your car was stored near Surrey
Hills and I live in Mont Albert nearby.
I will need to meet you in Bayswater at Kimber’s Kastle so you won’t have to travel far, the car will hardly be warmed up.Makes it easy for you.
I will leave my mob no. So call to speak directly.

Thanks Clive, I'll give you a call and see if we can organise a time between rain showers in the next week or so.
FYI, the car is with me in Elwood but an excuse to drive anywhere is welcomed. I'm often in Mont Albert for work, and Bayswater is fine too.
Talk soon,
Regards,
Robert

Keep in mind that a brake booster will not improve braking performance - it simply reduces pedal effort.

If you really want to improve the brakes, consider an upgrade to twin leading shoes on the front.

Thanks Tony. Yes, agreed.
I'm looking at a TLS conversion of the front brakes, maybe to early MGA, which means wider shoes as well (more pad area as well as TLS). So pedal pressure to drive that is part of the consideration.

"Cecil" cruises at 65mph and keeps up with today's traffic quite adequately (rebuilt XPAG + 4.22 diff). I finally decided we need to stop a bit more effectively to match that, which would allow Louise to drive it too. Getting ready for Gympie & back, round trip, next year!

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks for the visit Clive, useful to see a booster in situ. Here are two of the pics for the greater knowledge base.

Robert
