MG MG Y Type - Brake pedal covers

Hi All
Think YA pedal shaft for me .
The end of the pedal shaft is covered by a flat topped ball shaped piece, bolted to the outer face of the chassis rail. There is a threaded fixing lug on one edge. It looks as if there should be a semi circular flat plate attached to the top of this cover. Is this so ?
Secondly is there any sort of cover over the master cylinder box ? It looks as if there should be a cover but there are no attachment holes. I've seen mention of a rubber sheet placed on top presumably held by the floorboard?

Any info greatfully received as always.

Thanks a lot

John

On the outer end of the pedal shaft there should be a grease nipple that is protected by a cover. Originally these were made out thin sheet metal and have often rusted away. However you can now buy a complete kit, including the cup cover, bolts to go into the chassis with washers and also the rubber gasket that goes under the floor boards from me at https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/stores/yzpublications.shtml#MGYT.

Additionally, the pedal box inspection plate can easily be made at home - see https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/parts.shtml and scroll down to find the Pedal box inspection cover plate.

If this is not what you need, email me and we'll sort you out :).

Best wishes

Paul, I believe John is asking about the top of the pedal box and not the side. I think the cover drawing you reference is for the side. correct me if I am wrong.
My car has a side plate but not a top one. It's a YB though and this might be different though, as John says, there are no fixing screws.

There is no metal top cover for the pedal box Ian and John, just the floorboard.

Gentlemen thank you.
That covers all the questions I had except how thick is the rubber gasket?
Considering how rotten the lower half of my car was it is strange that the end cover of the shaft was in good condition , similarly the side panel of the master cylinder box. I had no idea there was a rubber sheet across the pedals .
The pedal shaft was in a bad way but the bushes in the chassis were fine . I got the shaft metal sprayed and it fitted a treat. The grease nipple mod I only discovered after it was all back in and connected !!
Thanks again guys

The original thickness of the rubber gasket may be covered in Let there be Ys - I cannot honestly recall.

If you wish I will be happy to supply you with a full kit John.

Sorry for the slow reply Paul, I actually thought I had replied. A senior moment!

I won't need a kit thank you, it seems I only need the rubber gasket and I have a sheet of 3mm so I'll give that a go.
Its not a level playing field but it is clamped by the floorboard bolt at the rear of the pedal box .
Thanks for your help .

OK Let me know how you get on. If need be you can just order the neoprene gasket on its own from me too.
