MG MG Y Type - Carburetters-refurbished
If any of you guys are interested and have money to spare; Burlens, The SU Carburetter Company, have a range of "restored, exchange carburetters". They have a Single HS2, AUC 456 carb at £193.00 including air intake (ouch!). Worth a look at it though, click on link and scroll down. http://www.sucarb.co.uk/Restoration.aspx?id=32 |

I had my carb rebuilt by Burlen back in 1982 and it's still going strong although I have recently fitted a new needle and jet. Considering the time it spent outside before I got a garage (1996) and the limited stop start use that's not bad going. It's one of those things worth paying for as you can fiddle with 'em for ever and not get it right. Effectively for the quoted price you are geting a new carburettor and years of trouble free use. They will also repair the one you have of course and they stock every part you can imagine. |

NB though, they do have a core charge so send your old one in with your order!! Paul |

There's a guy who refurbishes SU Carbs and always shares the same tent as the Octagon Club at Silverstone. I recall that Ted Gardner bought one from him 3-4 years ago. Very competitive prices and these were for rebuilt carbs without any exchange. I guess that with an exchange the prices might be even more competetive. I am going to the NEC on Friday and if I remember I'll try and find out who he is and if anyone else is offering such a service. Sincerely Jerry |

Glad you have the carbs back, but you don't say from whom or the cost. This would be helpful. What about a picture to make us all envious. Thanks |

Burlen Salisbury as per thread. I tried to upload photo but said too big to upload only standard size pic so no idea why. The carb cost £245 and was complete refurb new bits cleaned polished all as advertised in their web site advert. Just need time to fit it to car and burn some rubber. Look forward to spring run for my fix as opposed to web browsing. |

I had a carb refurbished by Burlen last year. It came back rebuilt, clean and shiny with the link arms re-bronzed (it was gleaming out of my open bonnet at the Spring Run last year at Toddington Keith, shame on you for not noticing!). It needed a bit of needle adjustment before it worked properly but since then it has been working perfectly. For the price it is well worth doing. Peter |

Peter, pleased to hear that news. Sure it will be fine unit but time will tell I suppose. Richard |
