MG MG Y Type - Carpet Heel Pad Y-Types
Does anyone out there in the Y-Type fraternity, have a photo of an original rubber heel pad that was fitted to the YA/YT/YB carpet just below the pedals ?. I understand you can get replacement pads to suit TA/TB & TC, but can anyone supply what the Y-Type pad looked like ?. Cheers Tony Slattery The Classic Workshop Black Mountain Australia |

Dave Lawrence sent me this picture of an Original MG Y Type heel pad. This would be a great thing for someone to reproduce if possible. This picture was taken from Trevor Austin's Y/5205 - a very original car that was the source for many photographs in Let there be Ys. Paul ![]() |

Thanks Paul, That confirms it is the same as what I found in YA5350. See photo...... Now to find a small batch run rubber manufacturer !. Cheers Tony ![]() |

Ì bought a one new this year at the Dutch MG parts event (maybe I should say NRS New Recent Stock as the pick dat is 11-11-09). The partnr. is CRM2001X and that comes up as MG TC, MGA and even MGB heelmat. So no need to find a rubber manufacturer? ![]() |

Willem you are a Champion !. The Morris parts bin supply network strikes again. Who would have thought that the Y-Type heelmat would have carried on to be fitted to the MGA !. Many Thanks Tony |

All, This was same pattern as the mat in YB0515, however stupidly I got rid of the carpet set when I had clear out, most unlike me as I never normally part with Y stuff "Just in case!" LOL |

Also available as part number J722 on http://www.mgbits.com/contents/en-uk/d178_03.html for £15.21 (plus shipping and VAT as applicable) from our good friends at NTG Motor Services! Thank you Willem for alerting us to this! I am ordering 2 now! Secondary question though - originally were they just placed on the floor ... or stitched in please. Paul |

The heel pad is definitely stitched to the carpet in YA3530. I will count the number of stitches on each side for the originality police, and report back !!!!. I ordered a heel pad from Sportsparts in Sydney today for AUD$25 - good value & service. Thanks everyone, Tony PS - maybe this can go in the next update of "Let there be Y's" ?. |

Ideas for inclusion in the next supplement to Let there be Ys should be sent to our Historian and South Africa Representative Dave Lawrence. Please see the Contact Us page for details. Paul |

Tony, Please count the stitches; I like those details. Thats why I think the pictured NTG heelpad looks better than the Moss example I have. The 'sunray blocks' are more evenly shaped as with the original. On the Moss pad the centre blocks are just a bit too wide. The NTG mat also looks sharper and thicker, but now I'm really nittpicking. My order went in today. NTG are awesome and I look forward to getting stitching details soon so these can be retro fitted to my Y and YT! Paul |

Shirley you can't be serious !. I was only joking about counting the stiches... Next thing you will be wanting a vintage carpet sewing machine on eBay ?. I am all for originality & appearance, but matching the stiches is a step too far for me. But I will count them - just for posterity & to honour the tradesperson who made them back in 1950, and the owners who preserved this car in the past. Cheers Tony |

Ha ha. Seriously what would be more of interest than the SPI (stitches per inch) would be the location of the stitch relative to the mat please. Post a couple of pictures too if you would for folk Tony. Thanks Paul |

Hold the thought for now about NTG's offering as I am in discussions with them about this. I will come back with more as soon as I know more. While I am here I found this other link - http://www.leacyclassics.com/crm2001x.html but they are Out of Stock currently. Willem, can you post a link to your Dutch supplier and check availability? Paul |
Paul Barrow |
NTG are currently Out of Stock of these and are trying to obtain more for us Y owners! More to follow! |
Paul Barrow |
Paul, I bought the heelpad from a private vendor that sold off his surplus parts. So no checking of availability there. Willem |

Apparently Anglo Parts has sufficient stock in Belgium? Part no. 121.099 https://www.angloparts.com/nl/catalogues/group/4299 https://www.angloparts.com/nl/catalogues/detail/253917 |
