MG MG Y Type - Center dashboard restoration

Hi
my YA is coming to street again step by step
made about 1000 pictures and post it in one other forum because it is easyer there to upload pictures

perhaps this here is interesting for some other YA YB restoration

today we need direction light and hazard warning light

so where could i place it on the dashboard without damaged the design ?
i hate the big hazzard light switch under the dash or in the dash

so i made my own design with freecad and printed it in clear resin with a anycubic photon

it is the dimension of the original fog switch
and it will be in this position - i don t need the fog light ;-)

the technik is a china switch with red LED inside
i have dismateled the swith to see how i can fix my knob

found a solution

the clear printed knob will be sprayed in black colour
only the depened part will be clear and shining red when the switch is on

also i made the control light for direction light on the right side of the center, there is nothing, on the other side the key
so there is a good place for it

it is a green LED, the chrom part i have made on my lathe from brass and galavanic chromed, a little bit darker than the original chrome, but i can make this one by myself

here more pictures

if someone is interested , ask me
in the moment i print a second one
don t know in the moment if the clack paint will be correct

also i made my own circuit for the direction lights, i can swithc off the trafficator if i want
i can use all switches as i want
and i have a fuse for trafficator and one for direction light ;-) all together in the battery box so it is easy to handle the wires

here the hole

Rather than drill a new hole, why not use the panel light switch position for your hazard flasher.

It's easy enough to wire the panel lights into the light switch so not needed.

your right i am so silly
i was the conzentration to make no mistake
and i made it
i dont use the panel light switch too

sh*t happens

but doesn t matter at all
have one switch more for something ;-)

there is na symetrie to the left side of the panel so it is ok like this too
i know it and you
but now panel under the dash or a big hazard light switch

here are a picture with my printed switch knob
it works but it was horrible with this small parts
next time i find a better solution to fix the knob without dismantel it

it works that it is important in the moment

Hi Tony
nearly ready with the dashboard now
had some problems with the electric circuit of my self made trafficator, hazzard light und direction light circuit

the panel light is switched on with the headlights
so the hazzard light switch is in the position of the panel light switch

the control lamp for the direction light is on the right side in the middle position

on the right side on the bottom there is the fog switch, this switch i don t need,
i have changed it to a stop the trafficator work ,
on a normal road trip i cand stop the trafficator working and if i want it work

all other ciruits are working now,
a big step forward

Hi all,
I have a YT, so re the above, does anyone have pics of dashboard arrangements with provision for indicators and hazard light electrics? I am just looking for ideas on good arrangements.

One possible arrangement is an extension or auxiliary dash, (Auxiliary Dashboard and How to make one by M Nicholson in Hints and Tips )
Another idea is to shift the choke cable down to along side the steering column and use that hole for the indicator s/w. Still need a telltale light for the indicators (one green as per Franz's, or a green red pair for l and R with a separate lamp for the hazard lights,) Probably still need a separate switch for the hazard lights since they would be powered direct from the battery, while as indicators, the power supply would come off the ignition S/w.

The auxiliary dash panel seems attractive since everything else stays the same, and the new items can be accommodated easily enough. Since I will probably go for an SDC self cancelling controller, or program one myself, the panel would have either two momentary push switches (one for L and one for R), or a twoway toggle (on-off-on momentary) with a rocker for the hazard lights, all with integral or discrete LED's

So any images would help me resolve the aesthetics.

Hi the YT has the same dashboard as the TC or my TA
Next winter i have to rebuild the horrible dash from the TA too
There i don t need the fog light switch too
i have designed a Resin printed knob like the original knob
i will print it in clear resin and do the same as my YA only changed design so it is correct to the TA design.

for the direction light it is possible to make a 2 way led switch
so no switches outside the center and all looking like original. you only see it if you stand really near by

still on work so i can t post a picture of the design
but here you can look and find some pictures

http://www.mg-tabc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=928&start=100

printed in black resin, but will make it clear and paint it black so you see the led light
if the led is off it looks black
FT Franz

if you take modern LED switch you have both in one position, switch and control light the same position, and if you take printed original like knob you only see it if you stand really near by

in the moment i have a switch under the dash and always my knee hit it and it looks horrible.

Alternative aproach

I was lucky enough, to find a complete steering collumn of a YA. The Horn Push with its integrated traficator selector ring looks rather good, in place with the YT.

The small black instrument is the boost gauge of the Shorrock blower :o)
