MG MG Y Type - Cleaning Rexine
I have a complete set of interior beige Rexine covered panels in good condition; no tears or cracks or escaping stuffing. I would like to use them to maintain an original interior; but they are very, very dirty. Before I damage them by using the wrong cleaning method, can anyone give me any useful tips or suggest anything that will do the job. Peter |

Murphy's Oil Soap for wooden floors, mixed with water works very well and is mild and safe. |

I used warm water with a spot of malt vinigar in. Paul |

Thanks Scott and Paul for the advice. There's a book regularly advertised in newspapers in the UK called 'A Thousand Uses for Vinegar'. I'll let them know it's now 1001. Peter |

I thought 1001 was a carpet cleaner from the 60s! Paul |

I know realise the full implications of this. My YA interior smells like a saddle shop in a small English market town, with just a faint hint of the doctor's expensive pipe tobacco. My YB is going to smell like a chip shop in Southend. Does anyone know if Murphy's Oil Soap is sold in the UK; all references I can find for it are from the US. Peter |

You might also look in your local hardware store (not B&Q) and ask if they have decorators Sugar Soap. Professional painters use this to prep walls etc prior to painting as it is a degreasant and removes staining such as tabacco. Paul |

Paul, Thanks, Sugar Soap did the trick; and we had some in the house already. See before and after photo attached. Peter ![]() |

My mother used to use it all the time to prep walls before decorating in the 60s when she and Father were smokers so I thought it would do the trick. Dont scrub too hard though or you will literally scrub out the pattern. If it is proving hard to shift some stains, leave them to soak. Paul |
