MG MG Y Type - Clutch adjustment problem

I can't seem to get the correct adjustment on my new 8 in clutch on my haYB.. tI.vehe correct 1 1/8 in gap between the stop and the adjusting thing as per workshop manual ... But in order to get the clutch to work I have to really adjust inwards the locking nuts on the end of the cable way beyond what I would expect and even then the pedal operates the clutch at the end of its travel almost to the floor...car changes gear and drives normally when in gear (on axle stands at the rear)... Not sure what's going on...what length should the rod be ...just in case that's a problem but I'm told it's an original one. All new clutch and release bearing from MGOCC. Am I missing something?

I have just noticed that of the two nuts on the end of the cable one is a locking nut but the inner one should be a nut with a sort of curved stem on it..and it sits against the barrel shaped thing in the brass lever...my replacement cable just has two nuts and not the curved stem...anyone any ideas why...

Yes Dave - you will totally need https://www.mgbits.com/contents/en-uk/p3480_Adjuster-Nut-Clutch-Release.html in place to get the correct clutch cable alignment.

Thanks Paul.....I assumed all the bits would come with the new cable but obviously not so anyone else out there who is changing their cable take note!

Dave, have you made the O'Connor adjustment to the clutch linkage lever. It makes using the clutch less sensitive etc. http://www.ttalk.info/ClutchLinkageFix.pdf

I couldn't get the link to work so googled the modification you mentioned. I'll try with replacing the missing adjustment nut as mentioned by Paul as it's the simplest option. It's all a bit complicated particularly when you read the t type articles on modifications and clutch pedal stop bolts etc.
