MG MG Y Type - Clutch rod

Are the clutch rods on the YA and YB the same length? Anyone know ?

Hi,
the extra info on the NTG site says the un-adjustable rod on the early YT's was 13 inches.

I think it has to be bigger for later cars with 8 inch clutches and a different bell housing.
My YT was drive-able. So clutch worked OK. Now during re-build with new clutch and thrust bearing, cross shaft and bushings, it appears the rod is too long. In fact it is 13.75 inches. I am in process of making own adjustable one, can send image in a day or two if of any interests.

But why was the rod 3/4 inches too long anyway. That is a bit of a mystery. Bog Schapel, to whom I am indebted for much sound advice, says that thrust bearings can with different offsets. Maybe that's the explanation.

Interesting...if anyone cares to measure a YB rod where the clutch is 8 in that would be of help. Adjustable rod photos also would be useful.

Could I ask where the rod is being measured? Is this the overall length or to the centre line of the clevis pin hole? I have thought of making an adjustable rod as metric fork ends are readily available amongst the sailing fraternity. A 10mm gap would work but the pin hole is too big at 10mm also. does anyone know of these are available in imperial(BSF) sizes as I would prefer to use a BSF threaded rod for closer authenticity. Failing this has anyone ever tried a marine turnbuckle?

Hi All,
Measurement is centre to centre for the pins.
My prob (see earlier) arises because who-ever made the change from a cable to a rigid link for the pull rod actually left it to long. So to compensate they extended the push rod.
Anyway that's bye the bye.
I have set the pull rod to the shortest possible length without re-threading it. And made an adjustable push rod from the old one and a new clevis fork. I used UNF. A solid 3/8 rod was ground down to 5/16 and threaded to suit the fork end.The small end has been built up with weld and re-drilled. By salvaging the small end leaving a stub of the old push-rod, I was able to tap the rod stub 3/8, and thread the rod to suit. The rod was relieved so it bottomed on the fork end and not the thread. ("JB weld"-ed in)
NTG's rod is adjustable with LH and RH fork threads. Easier to alter, but I think it isn't a big chore with the one adjustable fork.
There are dozens of suppliers of clevis pins and fork ends on the web. I didn't record whom I used. Cost was less than $10 posted I recall. www.completeautomobilist.com has BSF is several sizes.

The image shows the completed rod, and old one (now truncated). The saddle used to stretch the original is visible.

As an aside on this topic I had the adjustable threaded rod end on the cable snap while I was refurbishing it and found that i didn't need to but a whole new cable assembly as the threaded part was simply screwed into the larger barrel part. It took an "easy out" (a singularly badly named tool in my opinion) to remove it and it was simply replaced by a length of threaded 1/4 bsf bar (actually a long screw/bolt with the head cut off).
