MG MG Y Type - Door Check Strap - MG YT
Can anyone please confirm what the correct pin should be to hold the door check strap on to the B post, I have one door checks strap was missing inside the door due to the eye let being broken, hence lost one pin. The other pin looks like clevis pin but less the small split pin? |

Just needs to fit snug Richard. If you have problems locating one let me know and I will pick one up for you here. Paul |

If it's the same as a YA, I think the door check strap is fitted with a bifurcated rivet. That's a rivet with two legs, like used elsewhere on the car (eg glovebox insert, the bituminous board under dash panel). referred to on Page 275 of LTBYs as "black headed button rivets") |

My YT was restored back in the 70's so the rivets are likely not original, however I do have an unrestored saloon(Y3530) that has never had the doors off - so two photos follow shortly from above & below. I will give they a dust off with a toothbrush & lanolin - otherwise original. |

From below - you will note it is not a bifurcated rivet - just a regular hollow rivet !. Apologies for the quality, but only the phone will fit down there.![]() |

Now if anyone ever considers that these rivets should be judged in a concours, may the flies off Kangaroo droppings infest your nostrils for a month !. Originality is nice, but please lets be reasonable here !. |

Tony, As always thanks for the effort in your response. Yes, perhaps originality is being taken a bit far here but it is nice to get things correct (my view) in any case. Happy new year Richard |
