MG MG Y Type - Door seal

I have a question ref. the rubber door seal. Can it be that my seal ist too wide -- see photo. It is 21 mm wide. Maybe I have to care for a more narrower one?
Can somebody please show me a photo of a correct seal.

Thanks
Walter

Walter, the rubber door seal can be very tight to fit. I found it much easier by soaking the rubber seal in hot water.

Hi Walter this may be of help

Gesamthöhe 16mm height 16mm

7,41 mm breite Basis 7.41 wide base
3mm Wand 3mm Wall

1,55 mm gebogener Abschnitt 1.55mm Bent Section
1,92 mm runder oberer Abschnitt 1.92mm round top section

John Jebb's door seal is virtually identical to the original...take my advice get some while you can..i did..and I cant fault it.

walter,
Looking very closeley at your picture
i do think you have the seal in the wrong way round, the curved section should be bending towards the body yours is towards the door edge which is wrong. Your doors look as if they have had repair work done, but where is the rest of the seal track it should go to the back edge of the door round the curve stopping just short of the straight hinge carrying section. It also should be the same at the top of the door.Without the track you have to glue the seal to the door
Length of front door seal should be 2,155mm approx x2= 4,310.
Rear door track is the same as front almost reaching the straight hinge section but the seal itself is in two pieces one piece is 1,090mm the second piece is 945mm long, total 2,035mm x2= 4,070.Total seal for Y/YB is 8,380mm. will put photo's of the finished ends of the seal and where the join is on the back doors tomorrow.

John,
thanks for your extensive explanation. Please see my photos, the red marking shows where my little seal holding rail runs.
That way I came to 1.5 m per door.

Hi All,
pictures of seal join on rear door and
top of front doors bottom of door is a mirror image, Rear door joint should be closer than in picture, this is of 67year old seal and has shrunk a little!!As for people with missing track you could glue it to the door using a contact adhesive such as"Hypabond"or a sealant "FC40" the latter requiring much more time and energy but possibly better, when the weather warms up i'll do some tests.RT i don't think hot water makes a great deal of difference to EPDM rubber afterall it gets cold within a very short time after removing from the water,i've done 4cars ( not forkcandles)!!with the blunt small screw driver method to me thats the best way,

John,
does that mean, ref. my photos, my seal tracks are partly missing (despite being the same on both front and rear doors)? Would you say, the seal goes around the whole door? But that is more than 2 meters?

Hi Walter,
All doors had track and seal fitted which ran right round the door other than the straight section top to bottom where the hinges fit

walter, just a thought if the drain holes in the bottom of your front doors are not like mine the doors had work done to it.Dont get on the floor to look use a mirror like i did for the photo.
