MG MG Y Type - Door Seals

Having now repaired and sprayed the doors I now need new door seals, the type fitted with adhesive since the old tracks have long since rotted away. Can anyone recommend a suitable snug fitting profile, and supplier. Bryan

go to the Y type bbs archive, type in door seals for search and you will see the old thread (Several) on this topic.

Hi Franz,
On my car the tapered end of the front door Seal Track measured from the top edge of the door is 70.5mm down the door. on two other spare doors i have it varies 5-10mm longer. ! have just checked
the passenger doors on my car and lo and behold the front is 4mm longer and the rear 9mm longer
than the drivers side!! it's not a precision part and robots did not build these cars so the humans!!stuck the track more or less where they wanted.

It would be great if someone would remake the channel for the door seal. Old rusted out ones could be removed and a new channel piece could be then mounted in place with epoxy resin cold weld glue. If the channel is already available - can someone post details?
Paul Barrow

Hello again,
measured from the top edge of the door is 70.5mm down the door."

thats only 7,05 cm, that could not be correct.

i get information of the channel in the other forum, it should be moss part

AHH 6440 from Moss UK
or
453-600 from Moss US

it should be about 1100 mm long.

shipping from england always so expensive that i bought 8x1 mm steel tube,

pressed it a little bit in the vice and cut it in the middel with my angel grinder (flex we say in germany)
it works, but it is not perfect like this, the wall is to thick
so i orderd ate break line 8x 0,7 mm yesterday, i will write how it works with this material

i will fix the flex and make a template to cut it
or
i will take a steel disc and put it to my
tile cutting machine

something like this here
https://www.amazon.nl/Einhell-Tegelsnijmachine-Kantelbare-Hoekschaal-Diamantdoorslijpschijf/dp/B07BRYNTSP/ref=asc_df_B07BRYNTSP/?tag=nlshogostdde-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=430581855816&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15602095257141090352&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9064120&hvtargid=pla-552371182225&psc=1

i hope it will work

a picture from my doors, with arrows where the channel propably goes

Hi franz,
If you had asked for the total length of the seal track fitted to the Y type i would have told you approx 2010mm total length per door
x4= 8/9 mtrs which is why i sell 9mtrs a time for a Y type.Where you get 1100mm from i don't know but if true i have been robbing my door seal buyers for the last couple of years strangely though nobody has complained.Because you were talking about the rotten bottom of your doors i thought you were asking how far the track went round at the back of the door,

JC Jebb

Hello
tried to order the seals from you last week ;-)
don t get answer until today.....
done it here:

https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/or17?runprog=mgclassnew&mode=emailform&classno=1.10602155516372512

the alternativ metal chanel you can buy from moss i don t know if it works, i have got the infomration from canada mg ya owner.

you have a pictue where the channel ends in the bottom of the door.

i thinnk most mg y have the same problem with the doors in the bottom, but i can t find the information in the web, and the search functino in the archiv i don t know how to use it so i could not find it
sorry

you have information where i can get the seals for the jack all ? NTG is really expensive

my restoration goes on, and i have made about 600 pictures from every step, in the moment i make a picture book, part 2, with all metal work i have done
FT Franz

To all y type owners doing a seal replacement the rear door seal needs careful cutting at the join where the wheel arch starts, thought i would mention this while we are on the seal subject.

Hi All
! bought this tin of ALPHA some time ago and have not tryed it yet, but the specs quite good it might be the answer to the trackless people whilst on the track subject i have been in touch with a firm looking at making the track out of semi hard nylon early days at the moment but will post developments on this site.
