MG MG Y Type - Door Seals for YT

Hi all
Further to the issue of sealing doors, (and I am glad to have the info about R123 and 306, Jack) there is a secondary rubber seal which fits into a steel moulding along the base of the door on a YT.
I have no sample, but imagine that it looks like a miniature example of the one under the windscreen.
is anyone able to confirm, or better yet, know of someone stocking this extrusion?
Thanks

Hello Geoff,

Ther was a smaller version of windscreen rubber on mine when I bought it (1988). However, when it was restored, this was replaced with a similar item but with 45 degree(?) bend so it doesn't catch. This was obtained from Peter Jackson's Old Auto Rubber in Sydney (Ph 9623-5333). HTH.

Again I got the door weather strip in 1999 from NTG. Still had the original in the doors though hard and brittle. Size seemed to match but the new weather strip hangs up on the right door which may be part of the problem with my doors not fiting as well as before with the old weather strip and without the original style draught excluder. So far I can't figure out a solution. Terry

Guys, I am a bit late on this topic but NTG have the T section that fits into the narrow channel that runs down the front and the bottom of the YT Doors. It is not a plain T section as it has a bulb on one side along the base. Cheers Richard Prior YT 3208

Richard: Which way did you fit the weather strip, with the bulb to the inside or outside of the doors? Maybe my less than perfect door fit results from having put them in backwards. Terry

My querry involves not the rubber seal but the steel moulding that holds the seal . I purchased my YT as a basket case - it was completely stripped with all parts in boxes unlabelled with the inevitable result that some were missing . Amongst the missing items are the steel moulding strips that fit to the bottom and front edges of the doors and hold the rubber seals .has anyone a suggestion as to a suitable steel section that will do the job . If none is available I thought I might glue a suitable rubber section to the door to act as a seal . Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mine is a Y but I expect the same metal extrusion.
Mr Meakhouse of Sportscar Metalworks of Iver bucks tel 01753 654144 made a couple of short lenths for me which then needed welding on. Not a job that I could find a local person for; quite tricky. I sent Mr Meakhouse a sample which he just may still have.

One respected commercial restorer uses adhesive under the door.

Terry,
Interesting question which way does the rubber go. When I checked my car the other day for Geoff I found I hadn't put the rubber in the same way on both doors -well bugger me! The Tail on the rubber is not straight but has a curve in the opposite direction to the bulb. It looks best with the bulb against the door lip and the tail angled towards the inside of the car. Other wise the lip is visible between the door and the body on the verticle section of the door and looks odd, like something has come adrift.
Cheers
