MG MG Y Type - E-bay Listing

To All.

I submitted this same post on the TD/TF board.

E-bay Motors item #170867398339. Asking for a starting bid of $15,000.00. A lovely car, no matter what. I do not know whether or not I'll bid but, I would love to hear pros and cons from you posters.

Thanks in advance,

Jerry

Looks a very nice car, but always difficult to fully tell from photo.

Knowing the seller (and the car) as well as I do it would not be appropriate for me to comment in too much detail, suffice to say MG YBs are very rare this side of the pond and were I in a position to have added a YB to my collection at this time, I doubt very much if this would even be on eBay currently.

The restoration was very thorough and Hyacinth has had a very loving home. Certainly the seller are, in my opinion, a highly respectable couple who it has been my privialage to know. I would strongly encourage any potential buyer to contact them with any questions.

A YB for sale on eBay too here in UK.

Seems quiet few Y Types for sale at this present time. Lets hope for new enthusiastic owners to keep them on the road in use and keep the dream of old cars alive.

Richard, re the Skipton YB:

Very nice looking car, though one or two oddities such as the door panel pockets. The engine compartment does appear very unloved and there are few comments about the mechanics which is perhaps a little worrying.

With that in mind it seems a bit over the top to claim that it is a concours car!

The answer is of course to go and see it. Certainly a car that I have not come across before.

It's not something that I would consider and I am not to keen on the duo tone colour.

The US YB:

The YB in the US looks a potential good buy. Although if one was thinking of importing it then add another £2k plus onto the price. At least Paul could give any prospective owner a report on its condition - even though he knows the owner!

All the best

Hi Jerry

I can certainly provide information on the US YB to an individual enquiry made to me off line, however I would say save time and ask the buyer directly. He will give you an honest answer to any questions and he is totally to be trusted and is a man of the highest integrity.

"Y" Afficianados,

Thank you Jerry Birkbeck, R. E. Knight, and Paul Barrow. I presently own a 1951 MG TD and a 1954 MG TF. LOVE both of these beautiful and fun - as well as "frustrating-at-times" - LBCs!

Paul, would you find it appropriate to forward to me the current owner's name, telephone number, and E-mail address? If so, please contact me using:

Again, I appreciate ALL the info I have gleaned from this board.

Sincerely,

Jerry
