MG MG Y Type - Ebay classic car parts

I was disappointed to see that Ebay has removed the 'Classic car parts' sub category from the Vehicle parts section. Classic car parts are now included in 'other vehicle parts'.

I have several long-standing searches for classic car parts set up in my Ebay account. In the past, these have found several difficult to find parts for my classics, some actually required and some useful as 'spares on the shelf'. I have also sold many surplus parts using the same classification.

The changes have resulted in the searches returning hundreds of totally irrelevant results, when previously I got only one or two highly relevant ones. It now takes me ages to trawl through parts listings by traders for modern cars, many still in current production.

I have contacted Ebay and been told that it only makes changes following feedback from members, or by monitoring usage of the available categories. I have pointed out that I consider this a retrograde step as far as classic car enthusiasts are concerned.

If anyone else agrees with me, I suggest that you make your feelings known to ebay. It is not easy to find the email link, but if you click on the 'Contact us' link top right on the Ebay page , then the same link in the middle of the next page and then 'Buying' and then 'Buying items' from the successive menus, an email link appears. I did get a prompt response from a real person when I complained.

They also appear to have removed the date of listings when you are looking at a search sorted by Newly listed, i.e. newest first.

I certainly intend asking the question of them Mike and when they reply about merely repsonding to requests I will ask them "So exactly how many requests did you receive to remove 'Classic car parts' sublist and the dates of listings before you actually did that then please? I doubt I will get a reply ... but if I do it will be interesting to see what they say.

I would encourage everyone who uses eBay to write in and complain - I have so 50 different items I am looking for at any one time!

If you have an eBay account you can also complain in person by going to http://ocs.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ContactUsNextGen&ttlintcnt=0&tb=1&ContactUsNextGen= and clicking on the Call Us button.

This will give you (when you are logged into your account) a phone number and a PIN number that you can call and get to speak to a real person about this and other concerns. The person you will speak to is completely unable to do anything but listen to your complaint and then escalate that to a more senior person. I have just gone through this process and look forward now to a reply from an eBay representative in which I will engage in a full discussion about this.

If everyone who uses this BBS and eBay does the same, may, just maybe, we will see the return of these useful aspects and eBay again will become a useful tool.

Well at least they have added back the date added field when you look at a search result by Newly Listed!

All we need now is Classic Car Parts to be put back in!

Mike,

Yes, it's a really annoying change - they clearly didn't think of rebadged modern cars when they made this change. Just think of what classic Mini owners are going through right now!

eBay's tinkering caused me no end of problems with my MG auction site http://www.mgauctionwatch.com especially with regards to the (old) MG TF, which caused MGF/TF parts to flood the T-Type category. In the end I had to exclude TF from the search entirely.

Yet another 'improvement' by Ebay- you cannot include your email address in messages through Ebay any more. It deletes them 'as policy'. The get-round is to replace the @ with something else and explain the reason. It is a nuisance if you want to get additional information, eg if you want additional or higher resolution photos of an item. I suppose that Ebay is afraid that people will correspond directly outside Ebay and deprive it of fees.
