MG MG Y Type - engine transplants

does anyone have experience using for e.g. an MGB engine @ gearbox in a YA or is there a better alternative
I Whyte

Various transplants have been done over the years ... including one guy who put a Rover 3.5 litre V8 in. However, the XPAG, when properly rebuilt is a strong unit. Why are you even considering a transplant out of interest? Email me back off line if you want to.

I concur "why consider a transplant"? I know others have done this and the feeling of a Y Type overtaking modern car is a nice feeling for a few minutes, but in reality I like my own YB to be as close to original spec. as possible. I accept the odd safety feature such as LED brake lights etc help.
The issue with more powerful engine is the brakes and suspensions need modifying to cope with the enhanced power.

The reason for the query is I havn't got an engine at the moment has any one got one? (I'm just a poor old age pensioner) that sounds like a begging letter!
I Whyte

The problem is the high cost of an original engine..rather than pay out you could look around at other BMC engines and see what can be fitted without too much modification. Not original but if it gets the car on the road...let us know how you get on.

I Whyte - please drop me a line off the Bulletin Board and I will look into the matter of fitting the MGB engine with you. If you do not have an engine in your car at all then this is quite a good route to go.

Look forward to hearing from you soon,

thank you all for the advice. I've now traced the original engine which is being overhauled. so hopefully it won't be too long before some real progress is made.
I Whyte

Nice one! That is good news.

Drop me a note off line still anyway if you would please.

Thanks
