MG MG Y Type - EU Roadworthiness testing

http://fbhvc.co.uk/2012/08/23/eu-roadworthiness-testing/

What's the thoughts of Y type owners? May just be proposal but like all things unless it can be taxed, or suits green lobby give it kick, seems to be government policy....

If you really want to addle your brain, see the full document. It's quite scarey.

I have already seen this branded as the "armageddon for modified cars"
This, combined with the abolition later this year of the MOT for pre 1960 cars, is in my opinion the thin edge of the wedge to remove or severly curtail our use of old cars on the Public Highways.

Will this effect the market value of Y Types and other classic cars?
Interesting to see three cars on carandclassic.co.uk have yet to sell! May be to do with the unrealistic prices being asked.

I think most Y-types are unmodified, or if modified, the 'technical characteristics of its main components' are within limits.

Arguably the fitting of MGA front and rear suspension/axle for strength and better (drum)braking would be within the technical characteristics (and hard to spot...). MGB brake disks would probably not.

There are Y's that had their XPAG replaced by B-series engines and that's a cast iron pushrod engine, too. You need to have quite some specialist knowledge to know all engines look in all old cars? So maybe a B-series engine would be within the technical characteristics. The DOHC all aluminum K-series engine would not.

It's the K-series engined Midgets/Minors etc. that are rightly worried. Most Y's retain their historic character and therefore won't be affected (much) by this legislation.

Valuewise this could mean that an original car will at least hold it's value and may rise in value because the Y is such a good car that it doesn't need mayor modifying to enjoy it to the fullest!

UK Citizens/Residents. Picked the HM Government E Petition up from MGCC Forum.

I urge any one with Classic car interest to sign.

Perhaps the MGCC Y Register and IMGYR could post news item to advertise this petition as it affects historic cars, values and use if such nonsense legislation is accepted on statute.
