MG MG Y Type - Flashing Indicators

Some time ago I fitted flashing indicators to my YA and blanked off the semaphore apertures, but now consider fitting repeaters in those positions.  The gap between the front and rear doors is quite restricted, so has anyone tried it, and found a suitably thin lamp to fit?
Bryan

The flashing lamps from Christmas tree lites works great! I just added a resistor to the lamps in series to bring the voltage/current down into the lamps operating range. These lamps fit right inside of the plastic housing and show up just fine.

Bryan,

In my autojumble-stuff I have some strange indicator lights on long chrome plinths. I often wondered what they are for and I now realise that they are meant to fit a semaphore aperture.

I guess mine are a bit too thick to fit between the Y's doors, but maybe you should search for such items?

Why disconnect the semaphores, when it's quite easy to fit flashing indicators that work at the same time and off the steering wheel switch as well?
Michael

I ditched the semaphores back in the 70's when parts were becoming scarce, any way they are a poor idea for these days. To have side repeaters is to my mind only complying with what other motorists expect to see. I would think to have flashing semaphores one would need two supplies - one switched supply to the solenoid and another flashing to the bulb, otherwise they could be a hazard to passing cyclist.
Bryan

Don't quite follow the problem with passing cyclists;the only hazard is that they will break off your trafficator arm with their shoulder.

The semaphore arms don't flash! The flashers are operated by the same power cable as the semaphores, with each side having a separate relay to reduce the load on the 50+ years old wiring and a flasher unit.

Any cyclist that gets that close to my Y stands much more danger from being hit by my fist as a danger to my Ys paint work so I am not in the least bothered about their injuries - I am more concerned these clowns dont carry insurance for their actions! Everyone on the road, as a road user owes a duty of care to all other road users - cyclists you are no exception so dont come near my Y - you have been warned!!!

I was going to say something rude about the lycra louts on bicycles but I forbore in the cause of political correctness.

Hang it.

Carry a walking stick and poke it in the spokes of any cyclist on the footpath or jumping a red light.

Old gits of the world rebel! Let's hear from Neil.
