MG MG Y Type - Floorboard Patterns
I've got to the stage where I need to be making some floorboards. The flooring in the car when I bought it was home made and not a very good effort....so I have never seen the real thing. I know this subject has arisen before but I'm hoping that since then someone has made or obtained some patterns. I know that LTBYs has some excellent sketches of the detail but I really need some accurate dimensions. Can anyone help? |

Hi Rob When I rebuilt my YB 13 years ago, it had the original, but very dilapidated, floor boards. I used them as patterns for the new ones, but I have a feeling I also made some paper patterns. If you still need help, let me know and I'll have a search in the loft and see if I can find them. If they are there, you are welcome to borrow them, as with the details in LTBYs you will be able to make up exact replicas. Keith |

Thanks for your contributions chaps...... Keith I was reluctant to ask you to go rummaging around in your loft, I know how much valuable time that can waste, although paper patterns would be great. Andrew I would be grateful for any help you can provide...I will email you direct. |

Hi Like you I have been doing a complete restoration of a YA. You ask about floor panels. I was in this poition, and a joiner friend of a friend said he would do them. I was very dubious, but was talked into letting him do this job. I purchased a sheet of outdoor 5 ply, £18.00 I was to pay this guy £10.00 per hour. When I returned to my workshop later on in the day. Floor was in and he was staining it. I could not believe it but he had taken photo's of each step. They were perfect fit all bolts holes were countersunk, he had even put the seat runners on. Wow I was amazed at how well the job was done. I paid him £60.... After he was gone I could not help myself I had to remove the panels to see just what it was like............ Oh well should have trusted him. Job was perfect.. I could highly recommend him. If anyone wants this job doing RIGHT. contact me on 07710 757473... I can get the timber, and after the job is done send them down to you by courier. No cost to you only joiners pay cost of board, and courier, about £25.00 |
