MG MG Y Type - Fuel Sender Resistance?

Can anyone provide me with the fuel sender resistance for empty and full? Is the travel of resistance linear? If not I could use resistance values for 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 tank as well.

I didn't think to measure this while the sender was out, and now I can't calibrate the gauge unless I find them! Well, that or drain out the tank and refill but it's easier to ask around first.

Did you check out Hints and Tips in the Technical Centre? There is one titled Fuel sender and gauge testing that will give you all that you need.

Didn't even think to go to the Y-Types site for that one. It's pretty obscure information! I'll give it a look, thanks.

Just had a look. The article says it's specifically for MGA, but the resistance does not seem correct. On an MGA, empty should be 0 ohms and full 70 ohms. Were the values for this article changed to 10=empty and 90=full for the Y-type sender? Or am I missing something?

The MGA (I think!!) has the same sort of sender so the principles are the same. Certainly the values were correct on the sender I fitted to the YT I am rebuilding here. The article was provided by NOS Locators who sell the Magnette sender which also works in a Y ... with a slightly shortened arm. I have worked with NOS Locators to advise them of how their sender needs to be modified to fit and work in a Y (correctly) and think they were going to include some notes with any they sell so that it is clear to a buyer. Are you trying to sort out a new one, or check an old one?

I'm trying to test the fuel gauge. The sender is fully rebuilt and installed but I forgot to write the values down to calibrate the gauge to.

The principles for the gauges are the same right up to the last MGBs, but it's the values of a Y-Type sender specifically that I need to I can make sure the fuel gauge is right.

Good question then - I will see if I can get some readings from a spare I have.
