MG MG Y Type - Fuel Tank overflow
Gentlemen
I wonder, if I am doing something wrong when refilling the fuel tank. The AUTOMATIC CUT OUT does not switch off the pump when the tank is full, and petrol is gushing out the Fuel Filler Neck, before I can release the trigger of the "pistol". Because of this gush, I only pull the trigger of the pistol half, to limit the pump pressure and the resulting puddle of petrol on the floor - is this maybe the reason of the CUT OUT not functioning properly? Or is it because the angle of the fuel filler pipe is not steep enough? Am I the only one with this little problem? Anton & Swiss YT4220 |

Hello Anton, Its possible you've installed the filler tube with the internal vent wrong, it should be at the high side of the neck once installed. Kim |

Hello Tim Thank you for your quick reply. I am sure that the filler tube is fitted correctly, with the internal vent on the high side. The two attached photos show the position "as fitted" to the car and with the filler cap fitted correctly as well :o) Anton ![]() ![]() |

Anton, All Y Types do this, no cut out with the Y's original spec, just simple care, and knowing the size of tank roughly amount left, in it fill up adjusting amount, you can't fill it to maximum, or as you describe flows out on feet and car paintwork, not good |

Hi Richard Thank you for letting me know. Saves me to try to improve this annoying setup. Quite sad that none of the Y owners, I know, ever complained about this unfortunate feature. It still tickles me to find out what the reason of the non existing automatic cut-out is.... Anton |

Go slow Anton and look inside the filler neck to observe petrol in the tube. |

Hi Anton, Late to this thread. Yes, this is a "feature" of the Y that I soon discovered when I first filled the tank ... no automatic shutoff at the pump! I now fill very carefully, usually adding around 20 l when the gauge indicates around 1/4. Ewan |
